The model 1080×460 is the smallest standard size of wheel fender, with the diameter of 1080mm and the height of 460mm. The structure of wheel fenders is similar to that of roller fenders. However, the wheel that is designed as the energy absorption cushion has taken use of the highly elastomeric material with significant compression. This has also improved the energy absorption capability and decreased the reaction force of the fenders.
As illustrated by the drawing, wheel fenders consist of two parts. One is the rubber wheel used as the cushion between the dock structures and the vessels, and the other is the steel frame used as the supporting part for the rubber wheel. This combination has not only made the equipment stable in application but also helped the equipment to install onto the dock structures.
Similar to the roller fenders, wheel fenders are applicable for the entrance of locks, inland waterway channels, and other narrow or exposed areas. And the fenders are mostly positioned at the dock corners.
